FEDIAF acknowledges the Importance of ten Years Work of the European Food Safety Authority for Pet Food Safety
FEDIAF, the European Pet Food Industry Federation, represents an important agri-food sector serving pets and their owners in approximately 70 million European households.
In a recent article to mark the 10th anniversary of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in the specialized Pets International Magazine, FEDIAF outlines that the Pet Food Industry\’s products and ingredients are fully in the scope of EFSA, even if its products are outside the human food chain.
Just as food for humans nutrition for pets must be safe for the animals and also for owners handling the pet food: The buyer of food and pet food is the same, and pets as parts of the family must benefit from wholesome nutrition just as their owners.
EFSA produced numerous independent scientific opinions in its first ten years of existence thereby giving guidance and reassurance to industry, regulators and most importantly to consumers about ingredients, additives or contaminants.
FEDIAF supports the very important role EFSA plays as the risk assessor for the reassurance of the safety of pet food products together with the risk manager (the European Commission).
