Following the overwhelming success of last year’s #PetPower event, the European animal health and pet food industry associations, AnimalhealthEurope and FEDIAF, have consolidated their collaborative work in the form of the Pet Alliance Europe. The Alliance will host a virtual event on Wednesday 29th September (1600-1700 CEST) to examine the role of #PetPower in Europe.

At the event, alongside European institutions and experts, the Alliance will investigate whether Europeans recognise the numerous benefits of pet interaction and whether pets could play a more prominent role in society to support our health.

Hosted by Parliament Magazine and moderated by journalist Dave Keating, the Alliance team will be joined by a panel of experts including: MEP Sirpa Pietikainen, Honorary President of the Intergroup on the Welfare and Conservation of Animals, Andrea Gavinelli, DG SANTE, European Commission and Professor Dominique Grandjean, Head of the Nosaïs COVID-19 detection dogs programme, Maisons-Alfort National Veterinary School, France.

Secretary General of FEDIAF, Raquel Izquierdo de Santiago, explains: “We are delighted to be working with AnimalhealthEurope to promote the wide ranging benefits of pet interaction via our Pet Alliance collaboration. It is an honour to have secured such a great panel of expert speakers for our #PetPower event and we look forward to debating how we can further advocate the positive power of pets and ultimately influence EU policies on social wellbeing.”

AnimalhealthEurope Secretary General, Roxane Feller, adds: “In addition to championing the wonderful benefits of pet interaction, the Pet Alliance is calling for much greater attention at an EU level for pet-friendly policies.  The Alliance is also keen to ensure that pet owners are well educated on how to provide their pets with the best care possible to ensure they are happy and healthy.”
