FEDIAF Annual Congress 2026: Future-Ready Pet Food

FEDIAF is pleased to announce that its Annual Congress 2026 will take place on Wednesday 10 June, from 14:00 to 17:30, at the Cardo Hotel in Brussels.

Bringing together policymakers, industry representatives, and stakeholders from across the pet food value chain, this year’s Congress will explore the overarching theme: “Future-Ready Pet Food: Policy, Innovation and Consumers for the Next Decade.”

At a time when the European pet food sector is navigating rapid technological progress, evolving consumer expectations, and an increasingly complex regulatory environment, the Congress will provide a platform for forward-looking discussion on how to ensure the sector remains competitive, innovative, and aligned with EU policy developments.

Session 1: Innovation aligned with regulation

The first session will focus on the future of pet food innovation and its interaction with the regulatory framework.

As new ingredients, alternative proteins, and advanced production methods emerge, the sector is increasingly confronted with the challenge of ensuring that legislation keeps pace with scientific and technological developments. The discussion will explore how current EU frameworks are adapting to these changes, and whether they are sufficiently agile to support innovation while maintaining high safety standards.

Key themes will include:

  • The evolution of feed and pet food legislation in response to innovation
  • The role of science and evidence in shaping regulatory decision-making
  • Opportunities to streamline approval processes without compromising safety
  • The importance of constructive dialogue between industry and regulators

The session will feature representatives from EU institutions, industry associations, and innovative companies, offering perspectives from both policymakers and practitioners on how to align innovation and regulation in the years ahead.

Session 2: The European consumer of 2030

The second session will turn to the future of pet ownership and consumer behaviour in Europe, looking ahead to the next decade.

With new generations of pet owners entering the market, expectations around pet food are evolving. Consumers are increasingly driven by values such as sustainability, transparency, and product quality, while also navigating economic pressures that influence purchasing decisions.

The session will examine:

  • How demographic shifts are reshaping pet ownership and purchasing patterns
  • The growing demand for premium, purpose-driven products
  • The role of digitalisation and data in influencing consumer choices
  • The balance between affordability and innovation in a changing market

The session will bring together experts in consumer trends, market analysis, and industry practice, providing complementary insights into how companies can adapt to a rapidly changing consumer landscape.
